Meltblown fabric is a type of nonwoven fabric. There are many processes for nonwovens, such as spunbond, meltblown, hot-rolled, and spunlace. Among them, the nonwoven fabric made by meltblown method is called meltblown nonwoven.
Nonwoven fabric and meltblown fabric each have their own benefits, but if you want to speak from the protective effect, meltblown fabric is better. Medical masks generally use a multi-layer structure, referred to as SMS structure: the inner and outer side is a single layer of spunbond layer (S), the middle is a single layer or multiple layers of meltblown layer (M), which is the main material with virus filtration, is the middle M layer a meltblown nonwoven, commonly known as the heart of the mask.
The meltblown cloth is made of a polypropylene material called high melt finger fiber, which has electrostatic ultra-fine fibers that can absorb fine droplets, dust, bacteria and viruses through the electrostatic charge on the surface in addition to blocking larger dust particles, which is an important reason why the mask can filter viruses.
